Not an addiction

Not every doctor agrees that video games are an addiction

I can't believe this one got as far as it did. At least common sense prevailed for now.

Doctors backed away on Sunday from a controversial proposal to designate video game addiction as a mental disorder akin to alcoholism, saying psychiatrists should study the issue more.

Addiction experts also strongly opposed the idea at a debate at the American Medical Association's annual meeting.

So what was the idea in redefining video game addiction? We get a clue a little later in the article.

Such a move would ease the path for insurance coverage of video game addiction.

But it is not about the insurance, that is not where the money is.

No, for the real cash, look at liability.

What do you suppose would be the total damages against Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo if video games are found addictive?

Personally, I think the notion of spending 40+ hours per week to get money could be considered an addiction.
