Google violates privacy?

The new "Street View"

One of the memes that has been making the rounds the last couple of days is that the "Street View" of Google Maps violates privacy. And if people think that it is cool, they should have no objections to wider government surveillance.

Except like the satellite views, the street views are stored images, not real time video streams.

I can see the use of the images, especially in direction finding. It's the equivalent of a guidebook, not a telescope to spy.
