Another mess on the border

Gunfire and drug traffic

This story raises more questions than it answers.

A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona's border with Mexico.

According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state's West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.

Leaving aside the whole illegal immigration question for the moment, think about this.

Armed men tried to cross the border. They fired at National Guardsmen.

Wars have been triggered by less.

Why do we keep pretending that it's only about illegal immigrants who want a better life?

Why do we tolerate violent criminals in the name of compassion?

No, not every one who crosses the border is going to shoot up the neighborhood. But we can't pretend that isn't part of the problem either.
