Rearguard actions against the iPhone

Spike in stories about how the iPhone is incompatible with everything

John Gruber at Daring Fireball has a great analysis of a Wall Street Journal article about the impact of the Apple iPhone on corporate IT.

This suggestion isn’t about making it easier for corporate users; this is about making it easier for corporate IT departments that have chained themselves to Exchange.

Odds of Apple doing this: nearly zero. The pressure isn’t going to be on Apple to license proprietary technology from RIM or Microsoft. The pressure is going to be on IT departments to support open standards like IMAP, which the iPhone supports.

I'd say this is another indication that Apple is going to have a huge hit.

And it is the consumers who will benefit.
