NASA wants help from private industry

Too little, too late?

Well, this is nice to see, but it should have happened decades ago.

"If somebody says 'I have this really great way to be able to extract water ice from lunar regolith (lunar rocks) that I've developed on my own dime' we would be interested," Woodward said.

"If we could be in a commercial relationship with somebody who has the capability that's fine because in many cases they can do it for less money than we can," he told Reuters on the sidelines of a space development conference in Dallas.

Venture capital in space exploration was a key theme at the conference.

Ah, the reality begins to hit home. If the FedGovs had developed partnerships with private companies during the moon program instead of hiring them as contractors, we might have a significant presence in space now.

I don't believe in technocrats. Even in this article, NASA still wants to call the shots. History should teach NASA otherwise.

I do believe in the free market and human desire for the stars.

That's why long term space technology desperately needs "private contractors" and the wild eyed idealists who are working OFF the government dime.
