Destroy them at any cost

Shooting yourself in the foot causes more harm than you think

Like many people, I read things by writers I like. I watch films made by directors and actors I've had good experiences with. And I listen to music performed by groups I like. I also try to give new things a try once in a while. I listen to friends when they recommend something.

But I also have another slightly subversive method of choosing what I will spend time on, I look for the people attacking. That is how I read Harry Potter, I had no interest in reading it until certain people started attacking it. The HP books are okay, but are more of a marketing wonder than any literary value. Some don't fare so well, after a great deal of experience with Michael Moore, I would not trust him to tell me his shoe size.

That is why when this little bit started making the rounds of the right-side blogosphere, I had to smile. I really don't think the "hate-reviewers" realize the damage they do to their cause. Allegations against someone in office need to be backed up, being a Republican or a conservative or a libertarian isn't reason enough to remove them from office. Slanted poll results don't do it either, especially when there are no office holders on the Democrat side who are better.

As a rule, censorship or hate campaigns will draw my attention. I'll be more likely to dismiss the arguments of someone who doesn't want any other side heard just because experience has taught me that those are the people who are lying to get their message across. Finding out who is afraid to compete tells me more about the sides than anything else.

If you have problems with President Bush, fine, let's talk about those. If you start talking about how Bush is Nazi-like, then Godwin's Law applies and I will find something else to occupy my time with.
