Mexico opposes proposed border fence

As I've said before, I have mixed emotions about the illegal immigrant situation.

As a libertarian, I think that the border should be open. But living in a southwestern state, there is no denying that illegal immigration imposes a huge cost, one that has been largely ignored in other states. An open border is one thing, but another national government encouraging it's citizens to cross illegally shouldn't be tolerated.

And that is why things like this get my attention.

"Mexico is not going to bear, it is not going to permit and it will not allow a stupid thing like this wall," Foreign Relations Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez said, adding the government will do "whatever is needed" to oppose the measure.

"What has to be done is to raise a storm of criticism, as is already happening, against this," he said.

Derbez said he would take the issue to the international community in an effort to build opposition to the measures, and has already drawn some support.

Notice how the Mexican government assumes no responsibility and is only too willing to condemn the United States for enforcing it's own laws. No mention of Mexico's economic problems, or the fact that much of the Mexican economy depends on money sent south by illegals.

What good does it do to play by the rules when your side is the only one that does?
