Al Gore contributes to hot air over East Coast of U.S.Why pretend that there is no worthy
dissent when it is obviously there?
Last week this interview with Al Gore popped up. I've spent
quite a bit of time on global warming recently so I'm not going to go into
detail again. There are a couple of things that I want to point
out.
Mr. Gore talks about carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, but oddly enough he doesn't mention the "natural" sources like forest fires, volcanos, six and a half billion humans exhaling, not to mention a few quintillion non-plant life forms on the planet. Second, no one has yet proved that there is a relationship between carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and climate change, at least not more than any other factor, up to and including sunlight, tides, jetstreams, and ocean currents. Third, it is all computer models. I can put together a computer spreadsheet that shows I will earn more money than the Sony Corporation this next year. That doesn't mean it will happen. When someone can predict the exact days next year that one city will have rain and the amounts that each day will have, then I might be willing to look at someone's climate model. Until then it is a guess, and it is foolish to base revamping your entire industrial and technological base on a guess. Global Warming Watch linked to a criticism of Michael Cricton's State of Fear the other day. I scanned it, but I found it curiously incomplete. Mr. Cricton's book is heavily footnoted, yet the criticism somehow avoided all those footnotes. It's not just Mr. Cricton who is questioning global warming. Just as an example, I've read of professional statisticians who had some serious issues with the assumptions used in the "hockey stick" model. If the science is sound, then it can stand up to the critics. Yet is is only one "side" in this debate that wants to suppress dissent. I just want to know why. Posted: Mon - May 1, 2006 at 04:32 AM
