Murtha's call to pull out

Embracing defeat and walking away before the job is done

I think this is a half-assed solution.

The traditionally hawkish Murtha has introduced a resolution in Congress that would require Bush to order the withdrawal of all 153,000 troops; he thinks they can be out of Iraq within six months. The GOP-run House was expected to vote Friday to reject the amendment before Congress breaks for Thanksgiving.

As Joe Lieberman pointed out a couple of days ago, pulling out of Iraq before the job is done will make things worse.

Historically, there were people who called for the US to pull out of Japan and Germany right after WWII. It makes you wonder what would have happened there if we had.

Incidentally, that "hawkish" label that everyone uses for Representative John Murtha may be undeserved. James Taranto covers some of the details at OpinionJournal.com.
