Clairifying my feelings about the left

There are way too many fair weather leftists out there

I've been accused of going after Democrats, liberals, and progressives.

That is not who I have contempt for, believe me.

I am a strong believer in the necessity for dissent, particularly in a democratic nation during wartime.

I admire people for standing up for their principles.

But I despise people who change their "principles" according to public opinion, and then sanctimoniously wrap themselves in the principled behavior of others to hide their own words and deeds.

I judge that the majority of the Democratic leaders don't object to the Iraqi war as much as they object to an Iraqi war being conducted by a Republican president.

And then to claim special privilege because they object to war, well, dishonest is the least of labels I can give them.

It doesn't help that the last liberal president was a master at finding the political wind and then claiming credit for it. Hardly someone you should be modeling your political behavior on, especially when you want to be seen as principled.

But think about it. The last Democratic nominee for President ran as a war hero who was against the war, only not really. The point man in this latest gambit is also a war hero who is against the war, but not really. Never mind that he also called for the premature withdrawal from Somalia, questioning him would be questioning his patriotism.

I admire people who stick to their principles. I have nothing but contempt for those who change their principles to suit the public mood.

And I refuse to grant the second group the respect earned by the first.
