George Will doesn't trust George Bush

The Mier nomination draws fire from conservatives

I think I will let the man speak for himself.

It is not important that she be confirmed because there is no evidence that she is among the leading lights of American jurisprudence, or that she possesses talents commensurate with the Supreme Court's tasks. The president's "argument" for her amounts to: Trust me. There is no reason to, for several reasons.

Something is going on here, I have no idea what. But the Bush White House has shown itself to be very canny politically more than once. This nomination seems very out of character.
