Hacking the vote

Your vote could be stolen

I don't have a YouTube account, but Rogier van Bakel at Nobody's Business does. He's linked to the Princeton Vote Stealing demo.

I don't think that the voting machines are ready for prime time.

Honestly, I'm leery of any "security" provided by a Windows based machine. There are just too many out there who have exploited the operating system. The weaknesses are too well known.

From the pictures and films that I have seen, the voting machines use off the shelf parts, which is a physical security risk right there.

Free market advocate that I am, I believe firmly that it is a mistake to rely on just one company's voting machines, even in the same precinct.

Finally, I would remind people of two things.

Diebold does have Republican connections, yes, but the push to place electronic voting machines nationally was a Democrat initiative in the wake of the 2000 Presidential election. What's more, it was sold to the behind the scenes Democrat leadership as a way to manipulate elections, just as campaign finance reform was.

And we have Al Gore to thank for making voting lawsuits a part of the national election process.
