Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas

Stop the yelling about the name already

Going by all the television news stories and blog entries, this holiday thing is big news this year. I'd like to try to put this in perspective. And since I don't believe in pulling punches, there is one thing I have to say.

The people making the biggest noise about what to call the holiday are the same people who would deny others their choice.

It doesn't matter what the religion is or even if you celebrate a holiday in December.

Some Christians are objecting to "holiday trees." Some Jews and Muslims are objecting to the widespread term Christian. Some Pagans want the word "Christmas" taken out of the public sphere entirely. And some atheists object to any religious holiday, although they like the idea of a Winter Solstice celebration.

I have a solution. Call it whatever you choose and celebrate it in the way that honors you and your beliefs.

Just don't try to interfere with the holiday of another.
