"A Barrier That Could Have Been"

A MSM outlet picks up a story that has been hot in the right side of the blogosphere. An environmental group sued to prevent a New Orleans hurricane barrier in the 1970s.

I've been waiting for a "regular" news outlet to pick up this story, and yesterday the LA Times did.

Congress authorized a hurricane barrier for New Orleans that was stopped in 1977 by an environmental lawsuit filed by a group called Save Our Wetlands. It does seem like U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dropped the ball on the environmental impact statement.

There doesn't seem to be any clear consensus that the project would have prevented some of the damage from Katrina.

But it certainly adds to the political blame game, doesn't it?
