Amazing! D.C. gun control laws overturned!!

Sounds like freedom ringing again in the nation's capital

Stars above and Earth below, I don't believe this one.

"Appeals court overturns D.C. gun ban"

WASHINGTON - A federal appeals court overturned the District of Columbia's long-standing handgun ban Friday, rejecting the city's argument that the Second Amendment right to bear arms applied only to militias.

In a 2-1 decision, the judges held that the activities protected by the Second Amendment "are not limited to militia service, nor is an individual's enjoyment of the right contingent upon his or her continued intermittent enrollment in the militia."

The court also ruled the D.C. requirement that registered firearms be kept unloaded, disassembled and under trigger lock was unconstitutional.

To understand the full implications, you have to know some history. Like the fact that when the National Firearms Act of 1934 was challenged in court, one of the central pillars of the government's case was that weapons like a sawed-off shotgun had no military purpose whatsoever and therefore should be totally banned. With that argument and the Supreme Court upholding the law, the government created a standard of military use which never existed in the Constitution. The government was granted the power to say what was and was not allowed when it came to weapons.

This is interesting in two ways. First, sawed off shotguns were major parts of trench warfare during World War i, and that was only one of several lies the government told the Court. And second, any casual reading of the 2nd Amendment makes it perfectly clear that one of the reasons citizens had the right to their own weapons was to protect themselves from an overzealous government.

Of course you don't have to believe me. Nor do you have to question the timing of the 1934 Act and if it had anything to do with the Bonus Army. Or the construction of all those National Guard armories. The government was frightened of what the vets and their friends might do, and for very good reason.

The government also won't tell you that traditionally gun control laws were used to "keep blacks in their place." Nor will they tell you that the 1968 Gun Control Act bore a strong resemblance the German Nazi Weapons Act of 1938, thanks to the efforts of Senator Thomas Dodd.

If this decision is upheld, it could do away with almost all 20th Century American gun control laws.

As much as I dislike guns, I can't stand the thought of armed government agents and an unarmed populace.
