The FBI knows you are Guilty!

Tracking your online movements even if you didn't commit a crime

This is another one of those things that should get someone fired and the agency permanently disbanded.

FBI Director Robert Mueller on Tuesday called on Internet service providers to record their customers' online activities, a move that anticipates a fierce debate over privacy and law enforcement in Washington next year.

"Terrorists coordinate their plans cloaked in the anonymity of the Internet, as do violent sexual predators prowling chat rooms," Mueller said in a speech at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Boston.

"All too often, we find that before we can catch these offenders, Internet service providers have unwittingly deleted the very records that would help us identify these offenders and protect future victims," Mueller said. "We must find a balance between the legitimate need for privacy and law enforcement's clear need for access."

Let's see, where to start.

The FBI is charged solely with enforcing the law, not regulating ISPs or anyone else.

The vast majority of American citizens have committed no crime.

The United States has a presumption of innocence before the law, or at least it is supposed to.

Once these databases exist, they will be used for everything from approving your credit records to monitoring your behavior. All without your consent and no matter what your opinion is. The information will be open to anyone from your employer to the local League of Decency (have to prevent those child pornographers from operating in our neighborhoods). Do you really trust your neighbors on the next street over to know what you were doing on the internet? Do you think the kid five blocks away will not take your credit card number from the database?

Overnight, this will create a huge black market internet. "Questionable" services will simply move to the black market, which means no tax revenue for governments.
