Government goes after Supersize

Taking away the freedom to choose "for your own good"

Just think about this.

Those heaping portions at restaurants -- and doggie bags for the leftovers -- may be a thing of the past, if health officials get their way.

The government is trying to enlist the help of the nation's eateries in fighting obesity. One of the first things on their list: cutting portion sizes.

With burgers, fries and pizza the Top 3 eating-out favorites in this country, restaurants are in a prime position to help improve people's diets and combat obesity. At least that's what is recommended in a government-commissioned report released Friday.

Two things here.

First, why is the government concerned about obesity? Does anyone actually believe that tax dollars should be spent to keep someone from being too fat or too thin? By no stretch of the imagination does the government have any authority over portion size or even if there are portions.

Second, if it is a voluntary exchange between consenting adults, it Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do. Just like every other "moral" law out there, some busybody has taken it on themselves to eliminate freedom of choice. That is a pretty important freedom, and one that people are only too willing to sacrifice until it is too late.

Today they go after the Big Mac. Tomorrow they go after the large fries. The next day they go after the 16 oz soda.

Where does it stop?

Do you really want the government to tell you what you can and can not eat and when you can eat?

And why in blazes are they spending your tax money on this nonsense?
