So much for private property

Eminent domain abuse

Well, the Hercules City Council voted to seize property from Wal-Mart to prevent the company from building a store.

I know that Wal-Mart is a popular target these days.

But since the power of eminent domain was expanded by court decree, you would be hard pressed to find an American neighborhood that benefitted from government taking away property.

And just remember, once the precedent is set, you own your property only at the pleasure of the City Council and public opinion.

If I were looking to open a business in Hercules, this one thing would make me look elsewhere.
