Now they tell us

The White House is seeking retroactive Congressional approval for wiretapping

Somebody backpedaled.

After two months of insisting that President Bush did not need court approval to authorize the wiretapping of calls between the United States and suspected terrorists abroad, the administration is trying to resist pressure for judicial review while pushing for retroactive Congressional approval of the program.

You know, there is one good thing about this. People are going to pay closer attention to the domestic spying now. I don't think it will do any good just yet, but at least people are noticing.

Oh, and that retroactive thing. Unfortunately, this President Bush is not the first President to push for a retroactive law.

To me, that is pretty questionable in itself. A law can't be applied retroactively.
