White House wasn't told of intelligence doubts, says PowellColin Powell dropped a bombshell on a BBC
news show
Now this has
implications.
The US administration was never told of doubts about the secret intelligence used to justify war with Iraq, former secretary of state Colin Powell told the BBC in an interview to be broadcast on Sunday night. Mr Powell, who argued the case for military action against Saddam Hussein in the UN in 2003, told BBC News 24 television he was "deeply disappointed in what the intelligence community had presented to me and to the rest of us." "What really upset me more than anything else was that there were people in the intelligence community that had doubts about some of this sourcing, but those doubts never surfaced to us," he said. There have been rumors going for years that the CIA conducted it's own foreign policy and shaped it's reports to the President accordingly. Before his assassination, John Kennedy wanted to "smash the CIA into a million pieces" because of it's faulty information leading to the Bay of Pigs. I'm not going to open the assassination can of worms here, but I do want to stress that the CIA has a long history of telling the President one thing and doing another. There are at least three cases that are public knowledge where factions of the CIA worked against each other.* All of which certainly raises questions. Especially in the wake of the Valarie Plame/Joseph Wilson affair and the recent revelations of the covert eavesdropping on the American people. Both of which were revealed by "unnamed intelligence sources." And that in turn leads to the question no one dares to ask, just who is calling the shots here? Government is not your friend. And evidently it is not George W. Bush's friend either. *If you are curious about
these incidents, a good place to start would be
the mysterious bag of money found in the wreckage of TWA Flight 800. Posted: Mon - December 19, 2005 at 06:23 AM
