Today marks the anniversary of John Brown's execution

"I, John Brown, am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood. I had, as I now think, vainly flattered myself that without very much bloodshed it might be done."

He believed he served freedom and that according to the God he served, no man should be a slave to another.

He believed that freedom was worth the price.

John Brown deserves to be remembered, not as the madman that he was accused of being, but as a man of honor determined to do the right thing.
