News & opinion from a libertarian angle

Government IS NOT your friend!

Invoking extremes just makes things worse. Government usually creates more problems to solve the problems it already created.

I had a blog, a big ole political blog with all sorts of entries and spanning two blogging platforms. It went through a catastrophic data scramble. Some content was lost. So here are the old directory links. As I find it useful, I'll probably end up rewriting it and putting in the new blog. But there are some mixups.

❝Wonder Woman Got It Wrong. Did You?❞

“Wonder Woman 1984 will be hitting theaters (or streaming services) soon. Gal Gadot was fantastic as Diana in 2017’s Wonder Woman, but… she didn’t get her worldview quite right. She had to learn a powerful lesson about how humanity actually works, and it’s time to explain what Wonder Woman got wrong and why it matters to you.

It’s tempting to oversimplify both great things and terrible things by assigning responsibility to one important player. Diana was convinced that Ares, the God of War, was the mastermind behind World War I. So, logically, killing Ares meant ending the war.

Unfortunately, Diana found out that it just doesn’t work that way.

And whether you’re celebrating or blaming Obama, Trump, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden or Jeff Bezos, chances are it’s a lot more complex than that. Understanding that it’s not as straightforward as ‘your guy = good, their guy = evil’ is something Diana had to come to terms with… and she almost got there.”

  • Reagan did bend and break the law, but that wasn't what I was referring to.

Democrats called Reagan excessively patriotic and the "teflon President" because the majority of the American public overlooked his misstatements, foibles and mistakes so long as Reagan put America first. The Carter administration told Americans what Americans were doing wrong. Reagan made it "morning in America" and was immensely popular.

Democrats then (as now) were selling guilt.
