from crux № 15 - make it better

Short of a currency collapse or a Constitutional convention, there aren't many things that can be done that won't benefit the politicos and technocrats.

I do have a suggestion. An amendment giving each state legislature the power to select each year any single Federal law for a national public referendum. The referendums would be held every Congressional election.

Think about it. An election where a hundred laws can be repealed at the whim of the public, right next to names of those politicos who helped inflict them on the rest of us.

None Of The Above.

It's the only sure way to make elections work.

As it is, we're at the mercy of a corrupt party system.

I still want to know why the leaders of both national parties are not prosecuted under the RICO Act.

As nearly as I can tell, things are pretty much equally divided.

I'm going to show my libertarian tendencies now.

As the system exists now, it's almost impossible to change.

Before it crashes, anyway.

Personally I don't think religion or faith belongs in public school. I think it's a matter between the individual and the Divine.

And I certainly don't think that the Christian version should be there either.

No.

I want a government that is smaller than absolutely necessary.

I believe that people are perfectly capable of making their own choices and that society is the better if people do exactly that.

I believe that faith and religion can be a tremendous source of individual morality and a dangerous tyranny in society.

There is more but that will do for a start.

I can't stress this enough.

The state is not a moral entity. Government is not your friend, at best it is a bad servant.

Religion can not be allowed the coercive power of the state and the state can not be allowed the moral justification of faith.

You can't trust law to do the right thing. You have to watch it. You have to argue with it. And sometimes you have to fight it.

I'll let you in on a secret.

I try to treat people online as they have treated me. I'm nice until someone shows they don't deserve it.

For life in general, I have three rules.

THE GOLDEN RULE - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

THE SILVER RULE - Do for yourself at least as much as you do for others.

THE IRON RULE - Don't do for others what they can do for themselves.

I started keeping my crux files because I noticed I kept getting into the same discussions in comment threads on other people’s web sites. After a while it just made sense for me to organize my thoughts by topic. These are snippets. It’s not in any particular order, it’s just discussions I have again and again.
