Trump resets

The Constitution vests the power of declaring war in Congress. Therefore no offensive expedition of importance can be undertaken until after they shall have deliberated upon the subject and authorized such a measure.
     — George Washington

The executive has no right, in any case, to decide the question, whether there is or is not cause for declaring war.
     — James Madison

Trump launched a missile attack on a nation which had not attacked the United States, and he did it without Congressional authorization.

This is NOT a good thing.

I haven't had this much trouble writing an article in years. I had scheduled this article for the 12th. But the more I dug into it, the more complicated it became.

From a strictly libertarian viewpoint, Trump's decision to launch missiles at a Syrian airbase was wrong.

From a moral viewpoint, attacking a nation that had not attacked the United States or American forces was wrong.

From an international political viewpoint, the missile strike was a masterstroke that reset relationships with Russia, China, North Korea, Iraq, and Syria. In that order.

And
that is the problem.

Since the end of World War 2, American foreign policy has been interventionist. We meddle. America interferes in the
internal politics of other nations. And if they don't do what we want, we point guns and say “Do it our way, NOW!” Sometimes we send emissaries or ambassadors to make it sound nice. But the military force is always behind it.

Some people trace it back to Truman. Some trace it back to Wilson. I trace it back to Theodore Roosevelt and the
United Fruit Company. The American Century really began with the Spanish-American War and we've been meddling ever since.

Politically Trump's attack makes sense. Morally it doesn't. Politics isn't about morals, it's about controlling other people.

I've had people tell me that Syria is a rogue nation. That any nation that dares use chemical weapons is beyond hope. That we
had to act.

Except there's a
very strong possibility that the whole chemical attack was a setup.

Who defines a rogue nation? The President? The State Department that answers to him?

Since WWII, American foreign policy includes routine meddling in the internal affairs of other nations. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Middle East. Since 9-11, we're not even pretending to recognize sovereignty anymore.

We need to look at what we're doing. If we're going to rule the World, then mobilize the troops, establish the American hegemony, and start demanding obedience and tribute.

If America is going to lead the World, then we need to inspire not require.

And remember, the mainstream media that is praising Trump now is the same one that was trashing him for saying we shouldn't meddle. The intelligence agencies providing information are the same ones that have been lying to Congress and the American people for years, decades. The politicos embracing Trump now are the same ones that couldn't be in the same room with him before the attack.

Maybe there was a domestic reset too.

This isn't about freedom. Even though that is what you are being told.

You can't trust the media. You can't trust the international "experts." And you can't trust Trump.

Think for yourself.
