The distraction begins

What you aren't being told about illegal immigration

Let's talk immigration.

Despite the staged protests yesterday, and despite Senator Clinton's poll-driven efforts to seize the issue, there are some things to keep in mind.

First, if you aren't Hispanic, the Federal government is considerably harsher if you break immigration laws.

Second, a sizable fraction of illegal aliens destroy property and hurt people. Not all by any means, but it is happening, even if it is not politically correct to mention it in the mainstream news reports.

Third, the Federal government has acted against American citizens who are protecting their property and themselves. And no, I do not mean the Minutemen or affiliated groups.

Fourth, the illegals are breaking the law. All those screaming for immigration reform freely acknowledge that.

Fifth, the Mexican government encourages it's people to break American immigration law, and chastises the American government when it enforces existing law. In any other situation, this would be considered an act of war.

Sixth, there are certain Mexican extremist groups who openly advocate "returning" a substantial portion of the southwestern U.S. to Mexican control. Some of these groups have allies in the state legislatures and the U.S. Congress.

As a libertarian, I would love for there to be totally open borders. But the realist in me recognizes that this is another case where mixed law has delivered the worst of all possible worlds. It goes beyond sneaking into the country for better pay.

It's a mess, and the answer isn't black or white. Gods, I wish I had a simple answer. As it is, the only workable solution I can see is annexing Mexico.
